Get Some
Get Some brings a playful rhythmic character to its heavy guitar sound. Snot mix punk energy, funk grooves and metal weight, with Lynn Strait's voice moving between a rough attack and a looser delivery. The result is lively and often memorable, although the record's untidy energy can sometimes be more convincing than the songs themselves.
The opening Snot establishes that mixture quickly. A guitar sound shaped by wah effects gives way to a much heavier riff, with the bass helping the verses move around the attack. The rhythm keeps the performance flexible instead of turning it into a continuous wall of guitars.
Stoopid develops another effective groove through its cleaner guitar introduction. The lighter sound gives the heavier playing a useful point of contrast. Snot are particularly engaging when the instruments find this kind of movement inside an otherwise aggressive arrangement.
Joy Ride takes a quicker, more direct route. Its rushing energy makes a strong impression without needing a complicated structure, while Deadfall pushes the band's sound towards a harder, almost thrash-like attack. The two songs show how easily the group can move from a groove into a more concentrated burst.
The instrumental Get Some Keez provides a welcome change. Its relaxed, funkier character gives the record some breathing space, bringing the rhythm playing further forward. Along with the shorter Get Some O'Deez, it makes a useful case for the band's ability to hold attention without relying on the vocal.
The main reservation is the album's consistency. The broad mix of styles does not always produce equally clear songs, and the sustained force can make sections feel less focused. The spirited performances sometimes carry ideas that would benefit from tighter editing or a stronger melodic centre.
Still, Get Some has enough rhythmic personality and vocal presence to stand apart from more predictable heavy rock. Its strongest moments make aggression feel loose and mobile. Snot do not turn every idea into a lasting song, but the best material has an appealing sense of freedom.
