Kawala
KAWALA is a British indie-folk band hailing from North London, formed in 2015 by vocalist Jim Higson and guitarist/vocalist Daniel McCarthy. The duo met while studying music in Leeds and later expanded the lineup to include lead guitarist Dan Lee, bassist Reeve Coulson, and drummer Ben Batten. Their music is characterized by bright melodies, intricate harmonies, and a percussive indie-folk sound, drawing comparisons to bands like Bombay Bicycle Club and Glass Animals.
The band's breakthrough came in 2018 with the single "Do It Like You Do," which became a streaming hit and led to appearances at festivals such as Live at Leeds and The Great Escape. They continued to build momentum with the release of multiple EPs and, in 2022, their major-label debut album, Better with You. This album showcased their evolving sound and solidified their presence in the indie music scene.
Throughout their career, KAWALA has been known for their energetic live performances and strong connection with fans. They have toured extensively across the UK and Europe, performing at major festivals and selling out headline shows, including a notable performance at London's OUTERNET in 2024.
In December 2024, after nearly a decade together, KAWALA announced their decision to disband following a farewell tour in early 2025. To commemorate their journey, they released The KAWALA Collection on January 31, 2025, a compilation featuring fan-favorite tracks that encapsulate their musical evolution.
