Killswitch Engage formed in Westfield, Massachusetts, in 1999 and helped bring melodic metalcore to a wider audience. Their music combines hardcore and Swedish death metal influences, using both harsh and clean vocals. Alive or Just Breathing established an early landmark, followed by The End of Heartache and As Daylight Dies with singer Howard Jones.
