About Metallica
Metallica formed in Los Angeles in 1981 around James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich before becoming closely associated with San Francisco. Their early albums helped establish thrash metal, including Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets. The 1991 self-titled album took a different approach and brought a much larger mainstream audience to the band's music.
