Slip to the Void begins with room to spare. Myles Kennedy sings quietly over an uneasy setting, then the heavier instruments arrive as a genuine change in pressure. AB III uses contrast with more care than a simple alternation between clean verses and loud choruses. The darker mood gives Alter Bridge's third album a clear centre. Mark Tremonti's guitar parts have weight, but the music often seems interested in the uncertainty before the release…
