This Land
This Land finds Gary Clark Jr. using his guitar as part of a much wider musical picture. The blues remain important, but so do soul, reggae rhythms and sharper rock songs. His playing still has force. What makes the album interesting is the way he brings those different sounds into the writing, rather than treating every song as a chance for another solo.
