The Blackening
Machine Head give their guitar partnership a great deal of room on The Blackening. Robb Flynn and Phil Demmel use extended arrangements to move between hard rhythmic attacks, melodic harmonies and long lead passages. The strongest songs make that scale feel necessary rather than simply impressive. Clenching the Fists of Dissent opens with acoustic guitar before the band enter in force.
