Young Blood puts Marcus King’s guitar back at the front of his music. After the smoother soul approach of El Dorado, this record works with a heavier blues-rock sound, a close rhythm section and songs that get to their main ideas quickly. The energy is immediate, but the writing is controlled enough to keep the playing from taking over.
