To Only a Few At First gives Royal Coda's busy post-hardcore a clear centre. The guitars are quick and colourful, the rhythms keep changing shape, and Kurt Travis moves between smooth singing and a rougher attack. There is a lot happening, but the band usually make the detail feel connected. The strongest songs sound like musicians responding to each other, rather than several impressive parts competing for space.
