Freak Show
Freak makes its point with a riff you can remember almost before the first chorus. Silverchair's second album is often that direct: a strong guitar shape, a firm rhythm and Daniel Johns turning frustration into a rough vocal hook. The music is heavier than it needs to be, which is part of the fun. Slave opens with a slower, more oppressive attack. The bass and drums give the guitar enough support to make the gaps count, and Johns sounds willing…
