Magnolia
Magnolia finds The Pineapple Thief putting shorter songs ahead of extended instrumental development. The guitars still have weight, and the arrangements contain plenty of detail, but the melodies now offer a quicker route into the music. Bruce Soord's voice gives the album a reflective character without leaving every song in the same quiet setting. It is an accessible change of emphasis, with some loss of the space that made the band's longer work interesting.
