The Demon Joke
The Demon Joke gives Mike Vennart's detailed guitar writing a clear melodic centre. His first solo album still has the shifting rhythms and layered sound associated with Oceansize, but the songs often reach their strongest hooks quickly. Keyboards and unusual guitar shapes give the music personality without making it difficult to enter. It is a focused record with plenty happening beneath its open surface.
