Sempiternal
The electronic opening of Can You Feel My Heart establishes the central idea of Sempiternal. Bring Me the Horizon lets a repeated synth figure carry the song's identity, with the guitars and drums building weight around it. The electronics influence how the music moves, giving the heavy parts a wider emotional setting.
That approach makes the album unusually cohesive. Jordan Fish's keyboards create continuity between passages that might otherwise feel separate, while Oli Sykes uses a rough melodic delivery that stays close to his harsher voice. The songs can open into large choruses without suddenly sounding like a different band. Their accessibility grows from the arrangements.
Sleepwalking is the strongest example. Piano and electronic details provide a clear shape beneath the guitar attack, and the chorus feels like a necessary release from the verse. Shadow Moses is more forceful, with a central riff and shouted refrain designed to work together immediately. Its short breaks in momentum make the returning weight more effective than constant intensity would be.
The House of Wolves brings a harder rhythmic edge, while And the Snakes Start to Sing gives the band space to develop a more exposed vocal mood. The contrast matters because Sempiternal is concerned with distress and recovery without offering a consistently reassuring tone. Hospital for Souls takes that uncertainty into a long closing build, allowing the instrumental layers to gather around Sykes rather than rushing toward another breakdown.
The writing is less convincing when confrontation becomes a slogan. Antivist has a useful burst of energy, but its broad gestures are less affecting than the vulnerability elsewhere. Some of the album's repeated emotional statements also rely heavily on the vocal performance to make them feel personal. Sykes usually supplies that conviction.
Sempiternal's strength is the relationship between atmosphere and impact. The quieter layers remain important when the guitars become heavy, and the more aggressive songs give the reflective material a convincing context. It is a record with a clear musical vocabulary and a strong sequence, using direct hooks to draw the listener into arrangements that offer more detail than their immediate force suggests.
