Take This Oath is just as forceful, with the guitar figures and sudden rhythmic shifts giving the song more character than its familiar heavy and melodic contrast might initially suggest.
When Darkness Falls is one of the most complete examples of the band's approach. The rougher passages provide urgency, and the melodic material feels like a natural development of their underlying guitar ideas. Rose of Sharyn is more concise in its emotional expression. Jones gives the refrain enough conviction to make its accessibility feel earned, while the instruments preserve a firm edge around it.
