Album review: 'Vagabond' by Ariel Posen

Vagabond

For some reason, every few days I'm bombarded with the song Vagabond by Ariel Posen. Truth be told, I'd never heard of this guy, but... every time I thought: I should pay attention to this, because it sounds pretty cool. (It almost seems like the Instagram algorithm knows what I like.)

And now that I've finally taken the time: damn, it really is a great little track! It has a wonderful laid-back groove. A heavy pull behind the beat, so it's played just behind the beat.

The vocals are calm and share that same laid-back feel. However, the singing in the overdubbing feels a bit too compressed, almost as if a fuzz effect was applied to the vocals at times. To be honest, it actually detracts from the song. It doesn't feel like this was necessary, and at first, I even thought my left AirPod wasn't working properly, which I don't think was the intention. That being said, the song leaves a very strong impression.

This single is (now) part of the larger album Bannatyne, which seems like an interesting album in its own right and one I'll come back to later. For now, I can recommend that everyone give Vagabond a chance, and by extension, the whole album.
