Black Sabbath formed in Birmingham in 1968 and helped establish the foundations of heavy metal. Tony Iommi's guitar work and the original lineup's dark themes shaped Black Sabbath, Paranoid and Master of Reality. A later chapter began with Ronnie James Dio on vocals, producing Heaven and Hell after Ozzy Osbourne's departure from the band.
