Paradise Lost formed in Halifax, West Yorkshire, in 1988. Their early records helped establish death-doom, and their later development made them an important influence on gothic metal. The band's catalogue moves between crushing guitars, dark melodies and more atmospheric arrangements, tracing a path through several different versions of heavy music.
