The melody in As Daylight Dies is built into the guitars before Howard Jones begins to sing. Adam Dutkiewicz and Joel Stroetzel use bright, sustained lines around the heavier riffs, giving Killswitch Engage's songs an emotional direction that does not depend entirely on the chorus.
