Us and Them
Us and Them gives Shinedown's guitars more to do alongside Brent Smith's powerful singing. The second album works within familiar hard rock structures, but its southern rock touches and longer instrumental passages add useful variety. There is still a gap between the band's ability and the consistency of the songs. At their best, though, they make a convincing case for looking beyond the singles.
