I Am Hollywood
I Am Hollywood makes heavy music feel unusually lively. He Is Legend combine forceful riffs and screams with clear singing, active bass and guitar parts that reach beyond a single post-hardcore formula. The songs have enough character to work separately, while the group's energy keeps the sequence moving. Its strongest moments are both detailed and immediate.
The Seduction sets that pace with a direct opening riff and a busy, heavier arrangement. The changes in rhythm give the music movement without weakening its impact. Schuylar Croom's voice is equally important, moving between a melodic delivery and much harsher sounds. The contrast gives the record an expressive range beyond its most aggressive passages.
The bass has a meaningful role of its own. The Walls Have Teeth builds around a leading bass melody, while The Creature Walks gives the instrument space alongside the guitars rather than simply making it follow them. Those separate contributions help the band's sound stay active even when a song is already crowded with ideas.
Dinner With a Gypsy brings a different character through its guitar work. The jazz- and blues-influenced passages, melodic bass and strong chorus give it a more expansive feel. It demonstrates how naturally the group can bring a softer texture into music that still has weight.
China White provides another effective contrast. Its more reflective guitar passage and quieter singing create room before the vocal performance rises again. The movement gives the stronger section a purpose, with the melodic and heavier sides of the band working towards the same result.
The closing title track offers a much more concentrated burst of force, led by drums, dissonant guitar and Croom's harsh delivery. That ending makes a strong impression, although the album sometimes feels more like a set of distinctive songs than a single developing work. A few moments are less convincing than the best material, and the vocal extremes will remain a barrier for some listeners.
Those reservations do little to reduce the record's appeal. I Am Hollywood brings personality, skill and a playful energy to its mixture of melody and aggression. The variety comes from the musicians' individual contributions, making its heavier moments feel like part of a broader musical character.
