Solar Paroxysm
Solar Paroxysm gives every song plenty of time, but rarely leaves that space unused. Mare Cognitum build five long pieces from fast guitars, harsh vocals and melodies which seem to follow several layers at once. The sound is dense while the music maintains a clear direction.
Antaresian begins quietly before drums and guitars fill the space. It uses that firm foundation to develop a heavier rhythm and a distinctly melodic ending. These changes hold the extended structure together. The music remains aggressive without relying entirely on a continuous attack.
Frozen Star Divinization gives the interlocking guitar melodies greater emphasis. The parts stay fast, but recognisable lines provide something to follow within all the movement. Rough vocals retain an edge, preventing the brighter sounds from smoothing everything away. That balance between force and melody runs throughout the record.
Terra Requiem then chooses a slower, heavier route. Its different movement gives the middle of the album additional weight. The pace increases again later, making the contrast useful within the whole. The songs connect carefully even when their speed and intensity differ.
The long running time remains a clear requirement. Several tracks start from similar fast patterns, which can make their openings a little predictable. Their later development usually creates enough difference. Solar Paroxysm is strongest when its guitar lines find new space within the heavy sound and the music changes step by step. It asks for attention, but returns plenty of memorable melodies and carefully developed tension. For listeners drawn to atmospheric black metal, the combination of scale and clear direction is especially appealing.
