Everyone into Position
Music for a Nurse gives Everyone into Position its most beautiful moment by allowing the guitars to move slowly around a small emotional centre. The voice is part of the atmosphere, and the arrangement develops without demanding an obvious peak at every turn. Oceansize make the patience feel generous.
The album around it is more varied and less immediately calm. The Charm Offensive begins with drumming and guitar textures that establish a dark, physical groove. Mike Vennart's vocal provides a recognisable line through the movement, though the song's more conventional rock gestures are less individual than the instrumental detail beneath them.
Heaven Alive is more directly inviting, with an active rhythm and a strong melodic outline. A Homage to a Shame pushes toward a harsher sound, using abrupt changes and heavy chords to create an uneasy momentum. The guitar layers are important here: lighter lines remain audible inside the attack, making the force feel more substantial than another thick riff alone would.
New Pin finds another convincing balance. Its rolling movement gives the melody a clear sense of direction without reducing the instrumental parts to simple support. The band can make a relatively approachable song feel open to further discovery, and the track provides useful contrast with the more abrasive material.
The transition from No Tomorrow into Mine Host is particularly effective. After the former's harder ending, the latter offers organ, piano and airy guitar textures as a different response to the same tension. The sequence feels deliberately shaped, giving quietness a role beyond preparing the next explosion.
The two closing pieces widen the design again. You Can't Keep a Bad Man Down and Ornament / The Last Wrongs build through layers with enough melodic continuity to keep their scale involving. Some earlier songs feel less fully resolved between their familiar rock elements and more adventurous instincts, but the ending makes a strong case for allowing the band room to develop.
Everyone into Position is most rewarding when it lets those different impulses interact. Music for a Nurse is the clearest achievement, yet the restless rhythms and denser songs give its calm a meaningful setting. The record's character comes from the relationship between its moods, and its finest transitions make that relationship compelling.
