Album review: 'Errorzone' by Vein.fm

Errorzone

Errorzone rarely allows a comfortable moment to settle. Vein.fm move between angular hardcore riffs, abrupt rhythmic changes and fragments of electronic noise, with cleaner vocals appearing in unexpected places. The record is short, but the arrangements contain enough detail to make its intensity feel purposeful. It is an inventive heavy album with a few rough joins.

Virus://Vibrance immediately brings the different elements together. The breakbeat opening and sharp guitar attack give the performance a restless character, while the heavier rhythms keep it connected to hardcore. The electronic sound contributes to the disruption rather than simply decorating an otherwise conventional song.

Old Data in a Dead Machine pushes the dissonance further. Its guitar chords and active drums create a tense setting, with cleaner singing adding another layer of unease before the heavier passage arrives. The contrast gives the song a stronger shape without turning the melody into a predictable release.

Doomtech is more willing to hold onto a groove. The clean vocal and melodic interlude create space within the guitar attack, with the later increase in force giving that space a useful purpose. The band make the heavier return feel connected to what came before it.

The title track develops the most convincing melodic change. An abrasive opening leads towards a more open guitar bridge and a large chorus, with piano adding another texture. The arrangement grows naturally enough to make the wider palette feel like part of the song's identity.

Not every transition is as complete. The brief Untitled introduces a useful melodic contrast, but it can feel separated from the larger ideas around it. Elsewhere, the constant changes ask for close attention, and listeners looking for a straightforward hook may find the interruptions more demanding than inviting.

Those limits do little to reduce the record's overall impact. Errorzone makes its familiar hardcore and alternative metal influences sound newly unsettled. Its best passages combine rhythmic force with an unexpected detail, turning a compact collection of songs into a distinctive and engaging whole.
